California State

I was so envious of San Diego State University (SDSU) in California. For three successive year they rank 2nd for having the most number of student who went abroad to study or for internship. An incredible 1,624 students from SDSU went abroad for the school year 2006-2007.

The gates for such great opportunities were opened when Nancy Marlin’s whom her beliefs on the power of studying abroad made changes to the curriculum when she became provost. So under her tutelage 15 college majors are compelled to study abroad and that is over 60 percent of the total SDSU students who enrolled for the year 2006 to 2007.

International Security, conflict resolution, international business and the Honors Program of the University are just few of those courses or program which requires study abroad or international internship abroad. Scholars without Borders also originated in the campus of SDSU.

California in United States is referred to as the Gold State if not for its gold then for SDSU. It has a plethora of places to visit and attractions both for kids and adults. It ranks third in terms of its size and it has the largest population.

Disneyland, Hills of San Francisco, Hollywood and Napa Valley are just one of the many must-see places in California.

Not to count the world-known Lake Tahoe this is located where California and Nevada meet. The beaches which dazzled the people in the television show Baywatch. Person with a strong steak for adventure won’t be sorry when they visit California borders with headlands, beaches, bluffs, coves and bays that can also pass through wilderness.

Besides the thrill of Hollywood, art, fashion and music; extreme sports like skydiving, Bungee Jumping Rock Climbing and Kite boarding are also engaged in by locals and tourist in California.

Either to visit or study in California; indeed it is simply perfect for travel destinations.

The answers to these questions really depend on your preparations. And preparations for an Internship means:

  • The college course you enrolled in. The ‘course’ factor is really debatable. You can engage or do an International Internship with any course you take. Yet the right course is sometimes an advantage. The Global Scholarship Program offered by the Samsung Electronics to Indian Engineer students to get a MS/MBA in Korea plus a chance to get hired by the company is a concrete example of getting the right course.

  • Access to Significant Information. Information is a crucial factor in any successful endeavor. So you should equip yourself with the right company, equipment to get if not firsthand then useful information to augment your chance of an internship abroad.

  • Acquire Skills and Knowledge beyond what is required per course. Knowledge and skills can steer your career in the proper direction towards your desired direction.

  • School Requirements. Each school has its own requirement for Internship Abroad. One should comply all those requirements long way before the application start. Planning your college life from the course to the units you will take will really make your desire for an Internship Abroad much easier.

  • Financial Aspects. Finances is one of the important factors for your Internship, let it be a paid, summer or a Full-Sem Internship.

Medical Internship in Nepal

Posted by: admin on September 24th, 2008

One of the man problems in Third World countries is the lack of medical care. People here suffer the most dreadful disease without knowing now they got it. Nepal is a country located in South Asia.

My international internship in Nepal is beyond price. I have to admit that I would surely not learn and practice medicine in any other place than Nepal. The first few weeks were hard for me. I could not help any patients due to communication gap. Indeed, I was truly an intern medicine student for I would just observe and do whatever the doctor ask me to do.

I crammed learning the Nepalese language. I ask someone to accompany me to a bookstore and buy a dictionary of their language and mine. After 18 hours of work, I would insert an hour to learn a few words per night. Sometimes I cannot even seem to remember what I learned the night before because I am far too exhausted to digest the words.

Yet, circumstances taught me to push myself to learn the language because I had to. Patient come everyday, sometimes emergency cases that I have to help. I am forced then to learn, communicate and understand.

I pity more the status of women and children in Nepal. They suffer the most because of the economic status of their country. It was the first time that I experience the word hopelessness in this world.

I could not help but be pleased of what I have compared to people in Nepal. I have learned to love those I worked with in Nepal. The people who witnessed my hardship and my success also learned to accept the blonde haired doctor from the western world who does not even understand a single word way back then.

My internship in Nepal is beyond price for I was not only an intern. I was doctor there. I felt the responsibility of being a doctor in Nepal. I got first-hand experience of being depended upon.

My mentors were even great. They taught me things that books lack. They taught me how to read situation and how to care for patients. I will never regret being in Nepal for my international internship.
