Passion for Fashion, Internship Abroad

Posted by: admin on July 30th, 2008

The world’s most competitive industry is the fashion world. Fashion work in the classroom is entirely different when you have a ‘foot-in-the-world’ experience. The pressure, money, glamour, customers and a lot more of factors to consider; not to mention the right colors, perfect stitches, appropriate cloth and all of those elements one designer really thinks of.

The Fashion world is so wide that one can get lost in it. Here is some of the more popular course to take on:

  • Clothing Design Position/Internship – this is a very good way to start when you are thinking of having your own clothing manufacturing company. This job includes the preparation of cloths, packing orders, trimming, pressing and general knowledge of textile.
  • Fashion Showroom Position/Internship – this position really has a heavy responsibility on your shoulders. Interns will help prepare fashion shows, communicating with designers, buyers, events coordinators, and looking up sample request.
  • Merchandising Position/Internship – this position is mixture of background in design and of course computer knowledge. An intern in this position should have know-how with Social Media Sites- as he would be dealing with those.

The Fashion World is indeed wide. It took a lot of designers working on different categories to make on good show going.

Tips before going on your International Internship

Posted by: admin on July 27th, 2008

Choosing the international internship for you is not that easy especially if there are numerous programs to choose from, you have to look at them carefully before signing up for one. Although after you have signed up for your internship abroad, there are also things that you have to consider before going abroad such as attending seminars about the culture shock, the internship package, insurances, medical check ups and so on.

Here are some things that you should know before going on your internship. Let your organization give you information about the currency exchange, emergency numbers, and contacts on the embassy and so on in your placement. Your organization may also orient you or let you attend seminars about ‘culture shock’ and so on before going to your placement abroad. Culture shock is one of the factors that are tackled before going out to your international internship. Your organization will have seminars about this and other issues; so that you will already know about it and that you will know what to do when you are there.

Insurance is also one of the things that you should consider; you have to know that its insurance packages provide full support on health and medical in which includes emergency evacuation. The fees that you have paid for in your program, it often includes the health and medical insurance in your placement.

And lastly, you have to have medical checkups before leaving; there are countries which may need immunizations that are required by their laws. Check your host country if there are suggested vaccinations in their country. If ever there are vaccinations, you have to carry the documents with you together with your passport.

Internship is learning by doing

Posted by: admin on July 22nd, 2008

The best intern work by a language student is to work as a museum guide in the best museums all over Europe. Imagine speaking different languages to explain the different history of the artifacts. International Studies student usually studies different language. The basics of a certain language are not enough for you to speak the language understandably but it is a stepping stone to learn more of the language.

As they say the best way to learn is by doing it. Language students who would like to polish their language skills would be best immersed in a kind of work that involves language communication. A museum attendant or guide is the best way to polish such language skills.

Interns should have the common sense to be at their best intellectually and professionally when doing their internship. So, before going on their internship year they should be prepared enough to tackle the real-work atmosphere. Or else, they would be a graduate who did not learn the basics of their course.

Museums artifacts are a very interesting thing to tackle. They would be the best subject to research and be very fluent about. Pictures and paintings are also the best subjects to talk to visitors of such museums as they speak volumes of what is going on the volumes.

Even in the issues of internship there must be class. Imagine being able to work for the President of the United States. Could you imagine yourself as part of the White House’s team to cater to everyday office work in the White House? You read me right White House. Or perhaps create applications that would be used worldwide?

White House indeed accepts interns to work on daily office works, attend seminars, take part in tours, partake to community service or volunteer at special events. About 100 interns are accepted in the White House during summer, spring and fall. Of course thousands of applications are passed for just these few 100 internship positions. Internships in the White House are unpaid positions yet indeed you flaunt such internship experience with such pride in your CVs. If the White House can accept you why not others! Right!?

Another great opportunity is to work as paid intern in Microsoft companies. And what more could you ask if you are a software programmer and got to do your intern in the number one software company in the world. You will then make programs to be used by hundreds of people. You help create internet applications to be used by people beyond your countries boundaries or even by friends. Posted by: admin on July 17th, 2008

What can internships do to you? There are lots of questions will be running inside your head in what internships can do to you. There are always advantages in international internship, not only does it adds to your credentials in applying for jobs, it’s also gives you the experience that you won’t be getting from the any of the subjects in school. Take into account perhaps some of the intern who has made their choice in getting into international internship.

In the case of this news media intern at the Beijing Olympics, Matthew Lothrop, one of the delegates for the Olympic News Service. He is one of the American, Australian and British journalism students who are going to write about the statistics and quotes of the game summaries. For every intern they are given a specific sport to cover, he on the other hand has to report about hockey. He stated that it is not only about internship, it is also like studying abroad. Not only does he have to learn about hockey, yet he has to learn about the Chinese culture and have to take classes. They are also given tests to see if they are capable for their internship; all in all he said that being part it is a great learning experience.

And in the case of the aspiring chef Sarah Anne Maistry, who have been selected for an internship at a five star hotel nearby Buckingham Palace, said that being an intern is a wonderful experience to see the world.

Internship Abroad Expectations

Posted by: admin on July 15th, 2008

I dreamed of whacking my world of what I learned. I expect to make sales strategy programs for the top Sales Company in our country. Or soften and changed the most harden and juvenile student in the university. But I was surprised.

Most Interns abroad had lots of expectations or none at all, whatsoever. Or some expect something way off the mark.

Ask Intern students of her experience and I bet she will tell how awful the internship was. And awful means doing menial work instead of the things that an Intern expect. Menial work such as making coffee, encoding, mailing letters, running errands, etc!

Directors and mentors of big companies noted that Intern should have the right perspective. For learning is not based on how many new technical things you learned. But internship is also about personal growth and social networking and practicing the ability to establish relationship among co-workers.

There are also interns that are surprised by the kind of job that companies give them. And they are really pushed to do their best on their daily intern task. These are for Interns in smaller companies wherein the superiors have the time to instruct and guide their Interns.

In some instances like an organization in Malaysia (WWF), they trained their Interns as if they are employees and give them responsibilities like a regular employee.

Internship programs are being offered in every college and every school that it is basically needed in the curriculum in order to get a degree or diploma. Study shows that internship programs that college students take up before graduating makes it an advantage for them in applying for jobs after. Internship jobs are one of the qualifications that mostly companies look at, it says that being able to have an internship job makes someone get a better job and get higher salaries than to those who didn’t have any internship experience. Aside from the academic programs that these colleges have, having internship programs are also important for one’s career move and career growth in the future. Those who have had internships not only do they get better jobs but also easier for them to find one after college.

Students who participated in internship programs learn something aside from their experiences in the classrooms. Learning aside from the academic programs is different from learning through internship programs. Internship programs are hands on; this is the time where you have to apply what you have learned in the classrooms, it is basically the time for you to apply the theories that you have learned and it would be an advantage once you apply for jobs.

International Internship- Sum it all!

Posted by: admin on July 7th, 2008

The internship program on college completes the learning task of a college education. It is submerging one self in the world of work. It tests the skill of the student to recall abilities acquired during the college days.

Students often ask if the subject they took during college is correlated with the real world. Can they use these subjects in dealing with the people in their world? Can we use Algebra, Calculus, Integral Math, etc. in dealing with buildings and work mates? In the opinions of these neophyte students these subjects are not related with the kind of course that we take.

These are just the opinions of the students. Yet, as they grow up and experience the whole wide world we then understand the importance of every subject we took during college. That the ability to analyze and think are polished and practiced while solving mathematical equation not only to measure inches and meters by the engineering students. Or the algebraic equations solve by the psychology, education, etc. graduates helped them enhance their thinking skills that they use to understand human behavior.

That internship is just part of polishing and testing the aptitude and competence of every individual. That internship abroad is one way of learning new concepts accepted globally. That internship abroad is a sure fire way of showing all you got and what you learned through college.
