Internship at a Magazine Company

Posted by: admin on August 24th, 2008

You may be an aspiring magazine editor, writer and are a journalism student and would want to have your internship in a magazine company, need not worry here are some tips where you can find your internship and how to get it.

  • As early as possible, start searching for an internship even if its still summer or your classes haven’t started yet.
  • Talk to your friends and others who are on the field. They may know an opening of an internship or much better they may even recommend you to the editor to get you as their intern.
  • Try looking at some regional magazines and those that are smaller in publication. Most of the magazines don’t advertise if there’s an opening, this is because most students seek the job themselves.
  • Go to your school’s school advisor and career offices, they may help you in finding and applying for the internship that you want. They may also have a list of the publication companies that are searching for interns and so on.
  • Best way to find one is to check out their websites, they may have more information on the process of applying for an intern.

If you have found that internship for you, this is how you can get that job.

  • Get the important names that are behind that publication, for example the editor of a specific section of the magazine such as sports and other interests.  Address your resume, cover letter and application to that particular person; mention some journalistic experience and so on.
  • Create a portfolio about your works and your other writing experience and so on. The more you show that you are serious about it, chances are you get qualified for the position. You have to make sure that once they received your application, you also have to ask when you can expect for a reply from them.
  • Follow up your application by emailing or calling if you haven’t received any feedback days before the deadline.

Foster an International career via Internship

Posted by: admin on August 21st, 2008

International career is built through the years and not in an instant snap of the finger. A child who is guided on what he wants is indeed a very lucky child but a child who knows what he wants is also a very lucky child.

For these children who have visions of themselves will make decisions based on their goal. They would take international summer vacation jobs as early as they can possibly do. Or take a leap on gap year in international locations. Or volunteer during summer abroad. See, on how they would take every opportunity to deal with another race, place, culture and people.

Though there are generic skills that every employer would really appreciate on their employees like cognitive skills and social skills. Personal traits also would count because these would determine the kind of attitude every employee would bring in the work place.

The most often misconception of students is that they can only build their international career when ever they land on foreign land. This is a big mistake though. But if you are in college right now and will be doing your internship. Better contemplating on taking the leap for an international internship though it is a bit expensive but if you handle your cards well then it may be the starts of a dream international career.

In your international internship you can test your skills in learning and social work skills in cross cultural settings. Sounds easy…? But it is not for dealing with different people with different personalities is easier said than done.

Start an international career by having internship abroad.

Internship is learning by doing

Posted by: admin on July 22nd, 2008

The best intern work by a language student is to work as a museum guide in the best museums all over Europe. Imagine speaking different languages to explain the different history of the artifacts. International Studies student usually studies different language. The basics of a certain language are not enough for you to speak the language understandably but it is a stepping stone to learn more of the language.

As they say the best way to learn is by doing it. Language students who would like to polish their language skills would be best immersed in a kind of work that involves language communication. A museum attendant or guide is the best way to polish such language skills.

Interns should have the common sense to be at their best intellectually and professionally when doing their internship. So, before going on their internship year they should be prepared enough to tackle the real-work atmosphere. Or else, they would be a graduate who did not learn the basics of their course.

Museums artifacts are a very interesting thing to tackle. They would be the best subject to research and be very fluent about. Pictures and paintings are also the best subjects to talk to visitors of such museums as they speak volumes of what is going on the volumes.

International Internship- Sum it all!

Posted by: admin on July 7th, 2008

The internship program on college completes the learning task of a college education. It is submerging one self in the world of work. It tests the skill of the student to recall abilities acquired during the college days.

Students often ask if the subject they took during college is correlated with the real world. Can they use these subjects in dealing with the people in their world? Can we use Algebra, Calculus, Integral Math, etc. in dealing with buildings and work mates? In the opinions of these neophyte students these subjects are not related with the kind of course that we take.

These are just the opinions of the students. Yet, as they grow up and experience the whole wide world we then understand the importance of every subject we took during college. That the ability to analyze and think are polished and practiced while solving mathematical equation not only to measure inches and meters by the engineering students. Or the algebraic equations solve by the psychology, education, etc. graduates helped them enhance their thinking skills that they use to understand human behavior.

That internship is just part of polishing and testing the aptitude and competence of every individual. That internship abroad is one way of learning new concepts accepted globally. That internship abroad is a sure fire way of showing all you got and what you learned through college.

Internship Abroad, Across the Border Learning

Posted by: admin on May 31st, 2008

Our society put an immense importance on learning and education.  We even put a higher top priority on education abroad. This is for the fact that everything from education, language to business is getting global. And getting the best knowledge and skills is to get it from countries that excelled in the field that you have chosen. Internship abroad is one way of enhancing one’s skills, acquire exposure to international setting.

Internship abroad is an expensive enterprise for the parents and student. In fact, parents with foresight of the exorbitant expenses of internship abroad saved for years for their child’s education abroad.

Now, not only universities and colleges are interested in internship abroad but also countries. Asian countries like Japan, Malaysia, Korea and Singapore are now an internship destination for students around the globe. Not only Northern but also Southern countries  are encouraging there students to go abroad for internship by offering them grants. This is just evidence that countries are helping their citizens go global by funding abroad internship grants and scholarship.

An example is the Environmental Management and Research Association of Malaysia that is attracting Malaysian students with fervor for environmental management to get interested in applying for the K. Kumarasivam Young environmentalist Internship Award.

The selected candidate will be placed in a two week internship abroad in the core of environmental abroad. The scholarship will cover the expenses for accommodation, travel, living expenses and allowances. Last year’s intern students are placed in countries such as Thailand, Australia, Korea and Germany.

Thus, scholarship such as this one is supported by the countries government. This is also to ensure that the work force in their country is globally competitive.
